Hungary summons Ukrainian envoy over gas deal
Ukraine attempts to obstruct safe gas supply to Hungary, says Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto
By Ahmet Gencturk
ANKARA (AA) – Hungary on Tuesday accused Ukraine of violating its sovereignty, reported Hungary press.
Hungarian Foreign and Commerce Minister Peter Szijjarto reacted against Ukraine's decision to postpone the planned meeting of the Hungarian-Ukrainian Economic Committee and stated that it would turn to the European Commission over the 15-years natural gas deal signed between Russian energy giant Gasprom and Hungary, according to Hungarian news outlet Hungarytoday.
Ukraine's ambassador to Hungary was summoned to the foreign ministry to protest that country's attempt to obstruct Hungary's long-term gas supply, Szijjártó stated.
He added that the country sees Ukraine's move as a violation of its sovereignty and national security.
The move is especially 'unfriendly' after the support Hungary had provided to Ukraine, from deliveries of ventilators and health-care equipment to the treatment of soldiers, children's camps and investment support, Szijjártó added.
