DAMASCUS (AA) - New Syrian administration has taken control of border crossings in northern Aleppo countryside, in coordination with the Turkish authorities, the Syrian General Authority for Land and Sea Ports said on Saturday.
“A meeting was held between the leadership of the General Authority for Land and Sea Ports and a delegation from several entities affiliated with the Turkish government,” said Mazen Alloush, director of Public Relations at the authority, according to the state-run news agency SANA.
During the meeting, Alloush said that coordination was carried out for the handover of all border crossings in the northern Aleppo countryside, including Jarablus, Al-Rai, Bab Al-Salama, and Al-Hamam.
Alloush said that "as of this morning (Saturday), these crossings are now fully managed by the new Syrian government."
The move is part of a broader series of measures undertaken by the new Syrian administration to restructure and reorganize various official institutions following the ouster of the Bashar Assad regime.
Assad, Syria's leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia after anti-regime groups took control of Damascus on Dec. 8, ending the Baath Party's decades-long regime.
The takeover came after Hayat Tahrir al-Sham fighters captured key cities in a lightning offensive that lasted less than two weeks.
A new administration led by Ahmed al-Sharaa has now taken charge.
