ANKARA (AA) – The Indian Embassy in Türkiye on Tuesday organized a yoga session to celebrate the International Day of Yoga.
The session, held under the supervision of three Turkish yoga instructors, was attended by dozens of yoga enthusiasts, including the Indian and Turkish diplomats.
Alvaro Rodriguez, the UN resident coordinator, was also present as the guest of honor.
Speaking before the session, Gaurav Gandhi, the deputy chief of the Indian mission to Türkiye, stressed that with roots in India, yoga is practiced by millions of people from different beliefs across the world.
This is why the theme of this year’s yoga day is “Yoga for Humanity,” he added.
Gandhi further informed that the day has been celebrated with great enthusiasm due to yoga’s growing popularity and health benefits.
He said yoga also served humanity in alleviating suffering during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“In the post-COVID-19 geopolitical scenario, it will bring people together through compassion, kindness, and a sense of unity across the world,” Gandhi said.
Recognizing its universal appeal, on Dec. 11, 2014, the UN proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.
