India’s consumer inflation rises 7.04% in May
Market expectation was 7.1% increase from same month last year

ANKARA (AA) - Consumer prices in India annually rose 7.04% in May, according to provisional figures released by the country's Statistics and Program Implementation Ministry on Monday.
The market expectation for the figure was to come in at 7.1%. In April, the country’s annual consumer inflation rose 7.79% from the same month a year ago.
In May, annual consumer inflation was up 7.01% in rural areas and 7.08% in urban areas, according to the figures.
Meat and fish, oils and fats, spices and tobacco are some of the price indices that saw the highest gains.
The price data are collected from selected 1,114 urban markets and 1,181 villages covering all states, the ministry said.
