Indonesia and Singapore on Wednesday vowed to enhance bilateral cooperation and further strengthen ties in different spheres, including trade, defense and technology.

This came during a meeting between Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto with visiting Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, who arrived on his two-day official visit to Indonesia on Tuesday.

Wong is the first foreign leader to visit Indonesia after Prabowo’s inauguration as president last month.

"I hope that this visit will be a momentum for us to improve cooperation even better in the future, especially in strategic and important sectors for both countries, including cooperation on defense, law, trade, investment, food security and energy, as well as human resource development," Prabowo said, according to a transcript issued by his office.

The two leaders also discussed the situation in the Middle East.

Prabowo expressed concern over the situation in Palestine and Lebanon and called for an immediate cessation of violence in the region.

The two leaders also discussed the situation in Myanmar and agreed to ensure the implementation of the five points of consensus, in particular inclusive national dialogue and the delivery of humanitarian assistance.

They also discussed a possible bilateral cooperation on food security and technology transfer.
