TAL ABYAD, Syria (AA) - A US military base came under a drone attack by Iran-backed groups in Deir ez-Zor province in eastern Syria, according to local sources on Thursday.
Multiple kamikaze drones were fired at the military base at Al-Omar oilfield, where US forces are stationed, by Iranian-linked groups stationed on the western bank of the Euphrates River, the sources said.
No information was yet available about casualties and the US has yet to comment.
A similar drone attack was launched against the US base by Iranian-backed groups this weekend.
Last week, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) launched retaliatory strikes against Iran-backed groups in Iraq and Syria following a drone attack last month that killed three American troops at Tower 22, a remote military installation in Jordan near the Syrian and Iraqi borders.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella group of militants, claimed responsibility for the attack.
