ANKARA (AA) – Iran announced on Saturday that it intends to open an interests office in Saudi Arabia's capital.
Bahram Qasemi, a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry, told the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) that the office in Riyadh aims to look after Iran’s interests in Saudi Arabia.
He added that the office would be located in the Swiss Embassy in Riyadh under an agreement concluded eight months ago between Tehran and Bern.
In January 2016, Saudi Arabia severed its diplomatic ties with Iran after Iranian protesters stormed its embassy in Tehran amid protests of the execution of Saudi Shia cleric Nimr Baqir al-Nimr alongside 46 others convicted of terrorism charges.
