Iraqi Foreign Ministry expresses ‘deep concern about the attack that targeted the city of Isfahan’

ANKARA (AA) - Iraq on Friday warned of the dangers of military escalation in the region amid the ongoing tension between Israel and Iran.

In a statement, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry expressed “deep concern about the attack that targeted the city of Isfahan (in Iran)," according to the official Iraqi News Agency.

"The escalation must not distract attention from the destruction and loss of innocent lives taking place in Gaza Strip," the ministry added.

US media reported that Israel carried out a "limited strike" inside Iran early Friday morning. There have been no official comments from Israel yet.

Tension escalated between Iran and Israel on Saturday after Tehran launched a drone and missile attack in response to the April 1 attack on its consulate in Syria, which killed seven Iranian military officers, including two top-ranking commanders.
