BAGHDAD (AA) – An Iraqi court on Wednesday sentenced four Daesh militants to death, according to Iraqi judicial authorities.
The four were convicted of taking part in attacks against army and security forces in Fallujah and Ramadi in western Iraq, the Supreme Judicial Council said in a statement.
The council said the verdicts were issued under provisions of Iraq’s anti-terrorism law.
Wednesday’s verdicts are still subject to appeal.
Last week, the Mosul Criminal Court sentenced 212 people to death and 150 others to life in prison for links to the Daesh terrorist group.
Iraqi authorities are estimated to be holding around 1,400 foreign wives and children of suspected Daesh militants.
Late last year, officials in Baghdad declared that Daesh's military presence in Iraq had been all but eliminated. However, it appears the notorious terrorist group still maintains “sleeper cells” in several parts of the country, including oil-rich Kirkuk province.
