Another soldier injured in attack

BAGHDAD (AA) – An Iraqi soldier was killed Sunday in a suspected Daesh/ISIS attack north of the capital Baghdad, according to a local police officer.
Daesh/ISIS militants attacked a military checkpoint in Tarmiyah district in the Salahuddin province, police Captain Hatem al-Jaberi told Anadolu Agency.
He said another soldier was injured in the attack, while attackers fled the scene unscathed.
There was no comment from the Iraqi authorities on the attack.
Daesh/ISIS terrorists have in recent months escalated their attacks, especially in the area between Kirkuk, Salahuddin, and Diyala.
In 2017, Iraq declared victory over Daesh/ISIS by reclaiming all territories the terrorist group controlled since the summer of 2014, which was estimated to be about a third of the country’s territory.
The group, however, still maintains sleeper cells in large areas in Iraq and occasionally launches sporadic attacks.
