KIRKUK, Iraq (AA) - An Iraqi Turkmen official and five others were injured in a bomb explosion in central Kirkuk, northern Iraq, on Saturday.

The attack targeted Saygin Haceroglu, the head of the Turkmen Cultural House, according to an Anadolu correspondent.

The bomb was detonated remotely, resulting in serious injuries to Haceroglu and wounding five others in the vicinity.

Hasan Turan, the head of the Iraqi Turkmen Front, condemned the attack in a statement, calling it an “act of terrorism aimed at destabilizing the city.”

He emphasized that attacks on Turkmen officials are “part of efforts to create unrest in the region.”

No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing so far, and authorities are investigating the incident.

Kirkuk remains a flashpoint for ethnic tensions, with Turkmen, Kurdish, and Arab populations vying for political influence.
