Israel claims drones from Lebanon crashed in Golan Heights

2 explosives-laden drones launched from Lebanese territory fell in Zaura area, says Israeli army

JERUSALEM (AA) - Israel on Friday claimed that two drones crossed from Lebanon and crashed in the settlement of Zaura in the Syrian-occupied Golan Heights without causing any injuries.

A military statement said a siren was activated due to the suspected infiltration of a hostile aerial object in the north of the country.

Two explosives-laden drones launched from Lebanese territory fell in the Zaura area, the statement claimed and added there were no injuries, and an investigation into the incident is underway.

The Israeli army also reported that earlier today a projectile was fired from Lebanon towards the Metula area, causing no damage or injuries.

In response, the Israeli forces attacked the source of the launch, the statement revealed.

Earlier in the day, Hezbollah said it had launched a heavy rocket attack on the Branit barracks and a site in northern Israel in response to Israel's shelling of villages and towns in southern Lebanon.

Tension has flared along the border between Lebanon and Israel amid intermittent exchanges of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, in the deadliest clashes since the two sides fought a full-scale war in 2006.

The cross-border escalation comes amid an Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip that has killed more than 36,240 people since an attack on Oct. 7 by the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas.
