Israel-linked hackers target Iranian fuel stations in cyberattack

Attacks in response to 'aggression' by Iran, its proxies in region

By Anadolu staff

ISTANBUL (AA) - A hacking group said to be linked to Israel on Monday said it disrupted fuel stations across Iran in a cyberattack, Iranian and Israeli media reported.

The group known as Gonjeshke Darande, or predatory sparrow, in a statement said it disrupted "a majority of the gas pumps throughout Iran."

"This cyberattack comes in response to the aggression of the Islamic Republic and its proxies in the region."

It also warned Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei, saying "playing with fire has a price."

Iran's deputy oil minister, Jaleel Salari, said more than 60% of the country's fuel stations were experiencing technical issues.

"We have shut down the internet system, and fuel services are being provided manually without an internet connection," he said, adding that efforts were underway to fix the malfunction.
