JERUSALEM (AA) - The wife of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was stranded at a hair salon during anti-government protests Wednesday in Israel.
Sara Netanyahu was extracted later by the police after hundreds of protesters surrounded the salon in Tel Aviv where she was getting her hair cut.
Demonstrators have taken to the streets over the past weeks to protest Netanyahu’s plans for judicial reforms.
Local media reported that the protestors converged in front of the salon and opened a large Israeli flag and chanted anti-government slogans.
"Sara, my beloved wife, glad you returned home safely and unharmed. The anarchy must stop - it can cost human lives," said Netanyahu on Twitter with a photo of him and his wife.
In addition, opposition leader Yair Lapid and former Defense Minister Benny Gantz called on the protesters to allow Netanyahu's wife to leave the salon.
Israeli television stations live-streamed the evacuation of Netanyahu's wife from the salon under heavy security after the police forcefully removed the demonstrators.
She is reportedly accused of receiving expensive gifts from businesspeople amid corruption cases against her husband.
