JERUSALEM (AA) – The Israeli army said Monday that dozens of rockets were fired from Lebanon into northern Israel amid growing escalation along the Israeli-Lebanese border.
A military statement said 35 rockets were launched towards several towns in northern Israel, with some intercepted and others landing in open areas.
Israeli Channel 12 said that 10 more rockets were fired into Nahariya city, causing at least one fire.
According to the broadcaster, 20 more rockets were also fired towards the Western Galilee region close to the borders with Lebanon.
No details were provided about injuries or damage.
The Lebanese group Hezbollah, for its part, confirmed that it had fired barrages of rockets at the Israeli settlements of Sa'ar and Gesher HaZiv in northern Israel.
Since Sept. 23, Israel has launched massive airstrikes against what it calls Hezbollah targets across Lebanon, killing more than 960 people and injuring over 2,770 others, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.
Several Hezbollah leaders have been killed in the assault, including its leader Hassan Nasrallah.
Hezbollah and Israel have been engaged in cross-border warfare since the start of Israel's war on Gaza, which has killed nearly 41,600 people, mostly women and children, following a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on Oct. 7 last year.
The international community has warned that Israeli attacks in Lebanon could escalate the Gaza conflict into a wider regional war.
