Israel says US approved defense system sale to Germany
$3.5B defense sale deal largest in Israel’s history, according to Defense Ministry
By Abdelraouf Arnaout
JERUSALEM (AA) – The US has approved Israel’s sale of the Arrow-3 defense system to Germany, the Israeli Defense Ministry said on Thursday.
Israel is required to obtain approval from the US for arms sales involving mutual production.
Top officials of Israeli and German defense ministries are yet to convene “to sign a letter of commitment,” the ministry said in a statement.
“Once approvals are obtained from both parliaments (Israeli and German), the full contract will be ready for signing by the end of 2023,” the ministry said.
The ministry described the sale as a "historic $3.5 billion defense agreement, marking Israel's largest defense deal ever."
The Arrow-3 defense system was designed to intercept ballistic long-range missiles.
