Israeli airstrike kills 3, injures 9 in southern Lebanon

BEIRUT (AA) - An Israeli drone killed three people and injured nine others Friday in an airstrike on a residential neighborhood in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre.

Lebanese official news agency reported that an Israeli drone targeted the Al-Zira'a district, which contains popular housing.

The attack also caused significant damage to the targeted area, the agency added.

Rescue teams, supported by the military, continue to search for missing persons in the affected area.

Israel launched an air campaign in Lebanon against what it claims are targets of the Hezbollah group in late September, in an escalation from a year of cross-border warfare.

Nearly 3,400 people have been killed, over 14,400 injured and more than 1 million people displaced by Israeli attacks since last October, according to Lebanese health authorities.

Israel on Oct. 1 launched an incursion into southern Lebanon.
