Israeli army claims over 200 drones, rockets fired from Yemen since Oct. 7

JERUSALEM (AA) - The Israeli army on Friday claimed that over 200 drones and cruise missiles were fired from Yemen towards Israeli locations since the start of the Israeli war on Gaza on Oct. 7.

The Israeli military said in a statement that most of the attacks from Yemen were intercepted by the US Central Command, Israeli air force, and ground-based air defense systems.

The statement follows a Houthi drone attack that hit Tel Aviv early on Friday, resulting in the death of an Israeli man and injuries to 10 others.

In March, the Israeli army reported for the first time that a cruise missile that was fired from Yemen entered Israeli airspace and exploded in an open area in northern Eilat city in southern Israel.

Following Friday's attack, the Israeli Ynet news website quoted Israeli official as saying the option for attacking Yemen is on the table.

The Houthis have been targeting Israeli-linked cargo ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden in solidarity with the Gaza Strip, which has been under an Israeli onslaught since Oct. 7.

The Red Sea is one of the world's most frequently used sea routes for oil and fuel shipments.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced a multinational mission, Operation Prosperity Guardian, to counter Houthi attacks earlier this year.
