Israeli army claims to have killed Hezbollah member in Lebanon airstrike

There was no comment from Hezbollah on Israeli claim

ISTANBUL (AA) – The Israeli army claimed Monday to have killed a Hezbollah member in an airstrike in southern Lebanon despite a ceasefire agreement in place since late last year.

A military statement said the strike targeted two Hezbollah members in the Yater area of Bint Jbeil district on Sunday, killing one, who the army claimed to be involved in what it called attempts to rehabilitate Hezbollah military infrastructure in the area.

There was no immediate comment from Hezbollah on the Israeli claim.

The Lebanese Health Ministry confirmed Sunday that one person was killed and two others were injured in two strikes targeting a car and motorcycle in Yater.

Last week, the Israeli army claimed to have killed four Hezbollah members in attacks in southern Lebnaon.

Israel and Lebanon reached a ceasefire in November 2024 after more than a year of cross-border attacks amid the war in Gaza. More than 4,000 people were killed, and 17,000 were injured.

Under the ceasefire, Israeli forces were supposed to withdraw from southern Lebanon in January but have only partially pulled out, maintaining a military presence at five border outposts.
