JERUSALEM (AA) - The Israeli army on Tuesday claimed that its forces had killed a senior military commander of the Lebanese Hezbollah group in an airstrike on southern Lebanon.

In a statement, the Israeli army identified the Hezbollah commander as Qassem Saqlawi, who was targeted by an Israeli drone in the Tyre district.

It added that Saqlawi was "responsible for planning and carrying out rocket and anti-tank attacks" on northern Israel.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army also said its warplanes targeted a rocket launcher site for the Hezbollah group in the Ramia area in southern Lebanon.

On Monday, Hezbollah mourned six of its members killed in clashes with the Israeli army, bringing the group's death toll since Oct. 8 to 308.

Tensions have risen along Lebanon's border with Israel amid cross-border attacks between Hezbollah and Israeli forces as Tel Aviv presses ahead with its deadly offensive on the Gaza Strip, which has killed more than 35,500 people since last October following a Hamas attack.
