JERUSALEM (AA) – The Israeli army said on Sunday it intercepted a “suspicious aerial object” in the city of Eilat, coming from the Red Sea area.
"Naval and air forces detected a suspicious aerial object entering Israel's airspace from the Red Sea area,” the army said in a statement.
It added that “a naval vessel intercepted the target using the Iron Dome maritime system.”
The statement mentioned that “the target did not pose a threat, warning siren was not activated, and there were no injuries or damages.”
While the army did not specify the nature of the object, Israel's Channel 12 said municipality of Eilat informed its residents of a missile interception operation.
As of 2030GMT, no entity had claimed responsibility for the attack.
In solidarity with Gaza, which has been under intense Israeli attacks since Oct. 7, 2023, Houthis from Yemen have launched attacks on Israel with drones and missiles. Israel has claimed to intercept most of them.
