JERUSALEM (AA) – The Israeli army issued on Monday new evacuation orders for Palestinian civilians in large areas of northwestern Gaza ahead of an imminent military offensive.
The new orders were issued after the Israeli army claimed that rockets were fired by Palestinian fighters from Gaza’s northwest towards Israel.
Military spokesman Avichay Adraee called the new areas “a dangerous combat zone,” posting a map on his X account showing several neighborhoods and towns in northwestern Gaza to be evacuated.
Over past months, the Israeli military has repeatedly issued evacuation orders for Palestinian residents in large areas in Gaza ahead of carrying out military operations.
Displaced Palestinians in Gaza typically seek refuge with relatives or acquaintances or face uncertainty, setting up makeshift tents on streets or in shelters amid harsh living conditions.
Last month, United Nations spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric warned about the grave risks posed to Palestinians by the Israeli evacuation orders in Gaza.
According to UN data, 9 out of 10 residents of Gaza have been displaced due to Israeli attacks.
Israel’s ongoing war on the Gaza Strip has killed nearly 41,100 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured nearly 94,800 others, according to local health authorities.
An ongoing blockade of the enclave has led to severe shortages of food, clean water and medicine, leaving much of the region in ruins.
Israel faces accusations of genocide for its actions in Gaza at the International Court of Justice.
