Israeli army claims 2 Palestinians approached military checkpoint and began shooting at soldiers, prompting them to respond and killing them

HEBRON CITY, Palestine (AA) – The Israeli army killed two Palestinians on Friday, claiming that its forces had retaliated after the attackers targeted them near Hebron city, in the southern part of the occupied West Bank.
The Israeli army claimed in a statement that two Palestinians approached an Israeli military checkpoint and started shooting at the soldiers.
The military responded to the fire and killed them, it said, adding that the Israeli soldiers at the checkpoint were unharmed.
Eyewitnesses confirmed to Anadolu that the Israeli army opened fire on the Palestinians at the northern entrance of Hebron city.
Tensions have been high across the West Bank since the fighting broke out on Oct. 7 between Palestinian groups and Israel in Gaza.
More than 200 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli forces in the West Bank since Oct. 7 in addition to over 2,700 others injured, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
