RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) - The Israeli army stormed Palestinian refugee camps in the city of Nablus in the northern occupied West Bank late Wednesday.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society said that two people were wounded as the army raided the Balata and Askar refugee camps.
Witnesses told Anadolu that an Israeli military unit supported by several military vehicles entered the camps.
Clashes broke out between dozens of Palestinians and Israeli forces, who used live fire, they added.
The raids were part of a broader military operation being conducted by the Israeli army in the northern West Bank since early Wednesday.
The campaign, the largest since 2002, has resulted in the deaths of 11 Palestinians and injuries to several others.
Tension has been running high across the occupied West Bank amid a brutal Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip, which has killed more than 40,500 Palestinians, mostly women and children, since Oct. 7 last year.
At least 660 Palestinians have since been killed and nearly 5,400 others injured in the occupied West Bank, according to Palestinian figures.
In a landmark opinion on July 19, the International Court of Justice declared Israel's decades-long occupation of Palestinian land unlawful and demanded the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
