Israeli army reports 2 soldiers injured by anti-tank projectile from Lebanon

Tensions escalate as Hezbollah targets Israeli military positions near border

By Abdelraouf Arnaout

JERUSALEM (AA) - The Israeli army said Monday that two of its soldiers were injured after an anti-tank projectile was fired from Lebanon toward the town of Metula near the border.

A military statement said that “as a result of an anti-tank projectile attack in the area of Metula last night (Sunday), two reservists, members of the security team, were lightly and severely injured.”

“The members of the security team were evacuated to the hospital to receive medical treatment,” the statement added.

On Sunday evening, the army confirmed that two Israelis were injured in a rocket attack from Lebanon but did not specify at the time that they were soldiers.

In a related development, the army said: “Throughout the night, Israeli fighter jets struck Hezbollah terror targets in southern Lebanon.”

The targeting included “military structures in the area of Aitaroun, as well as operational infrastructure sites in the areas of Kfarkela and Khiam.”

On Sunday, Hezbollah said in a statement that it targeted an Israeli military vehicle at the Metula site with rockets, resulting in the vehicle's destruction and causing casualties among those inside.

Tensions have soared along Lebanon's border with Israel amid cross-border attacks between Hezbollah and Israeli forces as Tel Aviv presses ahead with its deadly offensive on the Gaza Strip, which has killed more than 37,500 people since last Oct. 7.

Hezbollah has linked the cessation of its attacks on Israel to the end of Israel's onslaught on Gaza.
