Israeli army says 15 rockets fired from Lebanon

Videos showed Israelis running towards shelters in Neot Mordechai settlement in Upper Galilee, Kfar Szold settlement in northern Israel

JERUSALEM (AA) - Israel on Tuesday said 15 rockets were fired from Lebanon towards the country's north, with some being intercepted while others falling in open areas without causing any injuries.

“Following the sirens that sounded a short while ago in the area of the Galilee panhandle, approximately 15 projectiles were identified crossing from Lebanon,” a military statement said.

Earlier in the evening, sirens sounded in the town of Kiryat Shmona, as well as in several other Israeli settlements in Upper Galilee, northern Israel.

Footage showed Israelis running towards shelters in the Neot Mordechai settlement and Kfar Szold settlements.

The sirens went off while they were celebrating the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, which began on Tuesday evening and continues until Thursday evening.

Tension has flared along the border between Lebanon and Israel amid intermittent exchanges of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, in the deadliest clashes since the two sides fought a full-scale war in 2006.

The border tension comes amid the Israeli military onslaught in the Gaza Strip that has killed more than 37,000 people since a major attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023.
