Israeli fighter jets target Hezbollah operatives in town of Ayta al-Shaab

By Said Amouri

JERUSALEM (AA) - The Israeli army said Thursday that it targeted several Hezbollah fighters in the town of Ayta al-Shaab in southern Lebanon.

''Israeli fighter jets struck several Hezbollah operatives who were spotted by troops entering buildings,'' The Times of Israel daily cited a military statement as saying.

There has been no comment by Hezbollah on the Israeli army's statement.

Earlier, the Israeli army said that four missiles were launched from Lebanon at its positions in the occupied Shebaa Farms, according to Army Radio.

The army said it intercepted three missiles and the fourth fell in an open area with no reported casualties or damage.

Hezbollah said it targeted the Zebdine site in Shebaa Farms in southern Lebanon with artillery shells and the al-Summaqa site in the hills of Kfar Shuba in southern Lebanon with appropriate weapons.

Tensions have escalated along Lebanon’s border with Israel amid an exchange of cross-border attacks between Hezbollah and Israeli forces as Tel Aviv pressed ahead with its deadly offensive on the Gaza Strip, which has killed nearly 34,600 people since last October following an attack by the Palestinian group Hamas.
