Israeli army targets journalists in Lebanese border village

Official Lebanese news agency says media teams were targeted with at least 2 rocket shells

BEIRUT (AA) - The Israeli army on Monday targeted media teams and journalists in the Lebanese border village of Yaroun with rocket shells, in the country’s south.

Official Lebanese news agency NNA said at least two rocket shells were fired towards media teams who were there to cover developments across the border areas between Lebanon and Israel.

There were no injuries reported amongst the journalists, according to NNA.

Lebanese security authorities, however, asked media teams to stay away from the area for fear of "expanded hostile bombing."

At least 39 journalists and media workers have been killed in the besieged Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, said the Committee to Protect Journalists last week.

Early on Monday, two Lebanese people were killed and others injured in an Israeli airstrike that struck a building in the town of Ainata, southern Lebanon.

Tension has flared along the border between Israel and Lebanon amid intermittent exchange of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, in the deadliest clashes since the two sides fought a full-scale war in 2006.

The border tension comes as Israel widened its air and ground operations in the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by Hamas on Israeli border towns on Oct. 7.
