JENIN, Palestine (AA) - The Israeli military withdrew Thursday from the Jenin Refugee Camp in the northern occupied West Bank following a three-day military operation that resulted in the deaths of one dozen Palestinians.
Witnesses reported that hundreds of residents have begun returning to the camp to assess damage to their homes and belongings after the military operation.
“The number of martyrs in the city of Jenin and its camp in the northern West Bank has risen since Tuesday to 12 Palestinians, who fell victim to the gunfire of the Israeli army," according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
The number of Palestinian fatalities in the West Bank since Oct. 7 has risen to 287.
The Israeli army carried out an extensive military operation in Jenin and its camp, during which 20 houses were demolished, and 700 Palestinians were detained.
The majority were released after being interrogated for hours, according to Kamal Abu al-Rub, acting governor of Jenin, as reported by Anadolu.
The Israeli army is escalating incursion operations, arrest and lethal force in towns and cities in the West Bank, concurrently with a destructive war it has been conducting in the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7.
