Israeli attack on Gaza refugee camp 'could amount to war crimes': UN

Series of Israeli airstrikes on Jabalia refugee camp in Gaza Strip reportedly led to hundreds of casualties

By Beyza Binnur Donmez

GENEVA (AA) - The UN human rights office on Wednesday expressed "serious concerns" over Israeli airstrikes on Gaza's Jabalia refugee camp, saying "disproportionate attacks could amount to war crimes."

"Given the high number of civilian casualties and the scale of destruction following Israeli airstrikes on Jabalia refugee camp, we have serious concerns that these are disproportionate attacks that could amount to war crimes," the office said on X.

A series of Israeli airstrikes on the Jabalia refugee camp in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday led to hundreds of casualties, according to the Interior Ministry in the besieged enclave.

The Israeli army has expanded its air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip, which has been under relentless airstrikes since the Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise cross-border offensive on Oct. 7.

More than 10,300 people have since been killed in the conflict, including at least 8,796 Palestinians and more than 1,538 Israelis.
