Israeli forces targeted with anti-tank missile near Lebanese border

Israel says it responded with artillery shelling towards source of fire

ISTANBUL (AA) - Israeli forces were targeted by an anti-tank missile early Wednesday near the Lebanese border, according to a statement by the Israeli army.

“Reports were received a short while ago that an anti-tank missile was launched by a military force in the area of the town of Shtula and the security fence on the Lebanese border,” the army said in a statement on X.

"Israeli forces responded with artillery shelling towards the source of the fire," it added.

The army did not clarify in its statement whether the attack resulted in casualties.

On Tuesday, the Hezbollah group said that five of its members were killed in southern Lebanon during confrontations with the Israeli army, bringing the death toll from its confrontations with Israeli forces since the start of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood to nine.

In a separate statement, Hezbollah announced Tuesday that it targeted “an Israeli army vehicle in the Metulla site (in northern Israel) and a Zionist tank in the Ramim barracks, causing direct hits.”

It also mentioned in another statement that it targeted other Israeli sites.

On Tuesday morning, the Israeli army bombarded border areas in southern Lebanon and dropped phosphorus bombs on the Marjayoun-Khiam Plain, according to Lebanese media reports.

Since Oct. 7, the Israeli-Lebanese border has witnessed high tensions and intermittent exchanges of fire between Hezbollah and Palestinian groups on one side and Israel on the other, resulting in deaths and injuries on both sides.
