Israeli police officer injured in alleged knife attack in occupied East Jerusalem
Police say suspect shot, 'neutralized' on Es-Sahirah (Herod) Gate Ascent Street

JERUSALEM (AA) — An Israeli police officer was injured in an alleged stabbing attack in the Old City of occupied East Jerusalem on Tuesday, according to police.
The injured officer was in moderate condition, said the Magen David Adom ambulance service.
Police said the suspect was shot and "neutralized" after he attempted to stab an officer on Es-Sahirah (Herod) Gate Ascent Street.
The suspect was allegedly a 34-year-old Turkish citizen, they noted.
While police did not share information about the suspect's health condition, an Anadolu team captured the moments when medics carried his body from the scene in the Sahirah Gate area of Jerusalem's Old City.
Israeli media reported that the suspect was killed by the police fire.
Tensions have been high across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem since Israel launched a deadly military offensive against the Gaza Strip which has killed more than 34,500 people following an attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on Oct. 7 last year.
At least 490 Palestinians have since been killed and over 4,900 others injured by Israeli army fire in the occupied West Bank, according to the Health Ministry.
Israel stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice, which in an interim ruling in January ordered Tel Aviv to stop genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.
