Israeli police officer injured in stabbing attack in Jerusalem

JERUSALEM (AA) - An Israeli officer was injured in an alleged stabbing attack in East Jerusalem on Monday amid an Israeli aerial bombardment of the Gaza Strip, police said.

Police said the officer was in serious condition following the attack that occurred near the Shivtei Yisrael light rail station in Jerusalem.

The suspected attacker was shot dead, police said.

The attack came as the Israeli army widened its air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip, which has been under relentless airstrikes since the surprise offensive by Hamas on Oct. 7.

Nearly 9,500 people have been killed in the conflict, including 8,005 Palestinians and more than 1,538 Israelis.
