Istanbul Photo Awards 2017 images on show in Ankara

Winning photos on display from Thursday at CerModern center

ANKARA (AA) - An exhibition of winning images from Anadolu Agency’s Istanbul Photo Awards 2017 will open in Ankara on Thursday.

The CerModern center will display 126 images until May 30.

French photographer Frederic Lafargue’s Fleeing Daesh was named Photo of the Year in a contest that saw around 25,000 entries in eight categories.

Aris Messinis’s series Death in the Mediterranean for Agence France Presse won the News Series Award while Adam Pretty's photo Below the Surface, taken for Getty Images, won the Sports Single Award.

Patrick Smith won the Sports Series Award and Mary Gelman won the Multiple Portrait category for her images of victims of domestic violence.

Kemal Jufri’s Feeding Orphaned Orangutans won the Nature-Environment Story Award and Johnny Miller received the Nature-Environment Single Award for his series on Papwa Sewgolum Golf Course.

Hosam Salem, a freelance photographer based in Gaza, took the Young Photojournalist Award for his picture Street Training in Gaza. The award was made for the first time this year.

Twenty-two photographers from 17 countries received awards at the event -- sponsored by Turkish Airlines and Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency.

The exhibition was previously held in Istanbul last month.
