ISTANBUL (AA) – Arter gallery in Istanbul kicked off the season on Thursday with the first retrospective exhibition of Turkish ceramic artist Candeger Furtun.
The exhibition, which will run until April 17 next year, brings together more than 100 works “reflecting Furtun’s rich world of forms and textures, along with archival materials that closely document the artist’s research and production processes,” according to an Arter statement.
“Conceived around the notion of the ‘shell’ the exhibition invites visitors to experience Furtun’s innovative approach to the art of ceramics in terms of form and material and her contributions to the artistic turning point that ceramics experienced during the 1960s.”
The exhibition is inspired by the “emancipative legacy of artistic movements such as Bauhaus, Constructivism, Abstract Expressionism and Zen philosophy,” the statement added.
The exhibition of the 85-year-old Furtun’s works has been curated by Selen Ansen.
