Italian PM arrives in Baghdad to meet Iraqi officials
There are 1,500 Italian soldiers in Iraq providing training to the Iraqi army

BAGHDAD (AA) – Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte arrived in Iraq on Wednesday for talks with Iraqi officials.
Upon arrival, Conte held talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi, a source with the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said, without giving details about the content of the talks.
The Italian premier will also meet with President Barham Salih and Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbusi during his visit to the country, the source said.
He will also travel to Erbil, the capital of the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG), for talks with KRG officials, the source added.
It remains unclear for how long Conte will stay in Iraq and whether he will visit Italian troops in the country during his visit.
There are 1,500 Italian soldiers in Iraq providing training to the Iraqi army.
Italy is a member of a U.S.-led international coalition operating in Iraq and Syria to fight the self-proclaimed Daesh terrorist group.
