ATHENS (AA) – Italy stressed that food security is one of the strategic priorities of its foreign policy, as reported by the local media on Friday.

Speaking at the UN climate summit, commonly known as COP28, in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said, food security is one of the "strategic priorities of our foreign policy" and hence a very important part of Italy's project for Africa, the Mattei Plan, aimed at the agricultural sector.

Underlining that the African continent has 65% of the arable land in the world, she added,” With adequate technology and adequate training, it can satisfy its needs and its economic growth.”

Meloni also announced that the country would provide some €100 million ($109 million) to the Loss and Damage Fund, which aims to help the poorest and most vulnerable countries in the world, generally, those most affected by the climate disaster.
