ISTANBUL (AA) - Japan is delivering medical aid by providing medical equipment to a Ukrainian hospital located in the capital Kyiv, NHK World Japan reported on Wednesday.
The Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital, the largest state-run medical facility for children in Ukraine, having completed more than 10,000 surgeries in 2023 was damaged by a Russian missile attack last July.
The attack that damaged the hospital had left two people dead and 300 injured.
Japan's top diplomat in Kyiv, Ambassador Nakagome Masashi signed a pact with the hospital on Tuesday, to supply medical devices.
The medical equipment included an electron microscope for the genetic diagnosis of pediatric patients with cancer and rare diseases, enabling more advanced diagnosis and treatment for a greater number of children.
Nakagome expressed his hope that the support will help save the lives of many children who will shape the future of the country.
Olena Matsibokh, who leads an aid group, said the equipment will greatly simplify and enhance the accuracy of diagnoses, ultimately contributing to the recovery of patients.
Tokyo continues to sanction Moscow due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, with more than 1,000 individuals and over 150 entities from Russia on Japan's blacklist of sanctions.
