Japanese authorities halted transport services in the capital Tokyo and some other areas ahead of Typhoon Ampil, local media said on Thursday.
Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways canceled hundreds of its flights to and from Tokyo's Haneda airport and Narita airport for Friday, Tokyo-based Kyodo News reported.
According to weather officials, Typhoon Ampil is expected to hit Tokyo and other regions while bringing heavy rain starting Thursday morning and hit the Kanto-Koshin region on Friday morning.
The East Japan Railway also suspended services in Tohoku, Joetsu, Hokuriku, and Yamagata starting Friday.
Separately, the Japanese government is expected to lift a week-long megaquake advisory along the Pacific coast on Thursday.
Authorities issued the advisory after the country's southwestern region was hit by a magnitude 7.1 quake last week.
