ISTANBUL (AA) - Tokyo's local government has launched an AI-powered dating app to encourage marriages as part of its effort to address Japan's declining birthrate, Kyodo News reported.

The app, called Tokyo Enmusubi (Tokyo matchmaking), is available to individuals aged 18 and older who live in or commute to the capital. Users must complete an online interview and provide personal identification, proof of income, and a certificate of single status to ensure security on the platform.

This project is part of a wider strategy aimed at supporting individuals from dating to marriage and child-rearing, as the country grapples with an aging population.

The app, available on smartphones and online, uses artificial intelligence to match potential partners based on shared values and responses to 110 detailed questions.

To register, users must pay a fee of 11,000 yen (around $77), and the membership is valid for two years. While the AI provides match suggestions, users can also search for partners based on specific criteria.
