ISTANBUL (AA) - Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman pledged to enhance their countries’ strategic partnership ahead of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025.

The two leaders discussed strengthening ties during a phone call Tuesday, focusing on energy markets and regional stability amid Middle East tensions, the Japanese Prime Minister's Office said in a statement.

Ishiba said he expects Saudi Arabia, the world's largest oil exporter, to maintain its stabilizing role in global oil markets while seeking expanded cooperation in emerging sectors.

He also praised Saudi Arabia's diplomatic efforts regarding the situation in Gaza.

Bin Salman, who also serves as the kingdom's prime minister, expressed strong interest in broadening the partnership across political, economic and security domains. He said his country attaches great importance to its relations with Japan.

Both leaders shared concerns about ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, particularly in Gaza, emphasizing the need for restraint from all parties involved.

The two leaders agreed to continue to work closely for the stability of the Middle East region, the statement noted.
