Japan’s retail sales grow 5.7% in May
Figure posts rise for 15th consecutive month as consumption sees boost after lifting of COVID-19 restrictions

ANKARA (AA) – Japan’s retail sales increased 5.7% year-on-year in May, according to official data released on Thursday.
The figure gained momentum from a 5.1% hike in April and slightly beat market estimates of a 5.4% growth, the Economy, Trade and Industry Ministry data showed.
This was the 15th consecutive month of rise in the figure as consumption increased after lifting of the COVID-19 restrictions.
On a monthly basis, retail sales grew 1.3% in May, shifting from a 1.1% fall in April.
