Jordan, India agree to strengthen bilateral ties, economic cooperation

ISTANBUL (AA) – Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored the importance of deepening bilateral relations and expanding economic cooperation during their participation in the India-Jordan Business Forum held in Amman on Tuesday.
Speaking at the opening session, King Abdullah emphasized Jordan’s commitment to broadening economic and investment cooperation with India across multiple sectors and increasing bilateral trade, according to the state news agency Petra.
He also stressed the importance of the integration of Jordan’s transport network with the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) as a significant opportunity to enhance logistical cooperation.
Modi, for his part, reaffirmed India’s interest in developing economic cooperation with Jordan, particularly in areas such as digital infrastructure, communications, pharmaceuticals and medical devices, and agriculture.
The Indian prime minister said Jordan, under the leadership of King Abdullah II, has become a bridge linking many countries, emphasizing the need to leverage this position to expand trade cooperation.
The forum gathered representatives from more than 20 leading Indian companies alongside Jordanian firms operating in key sectors.
A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the two sides to facilitate trade and encourage investment between Amman and New Delhi.
Modi arrived in Amman on Monday as part of a four-day tour in the region. The premier will visit Ethiopia and Oman in the upcoming days.
