AMMAN, Jordan (AA) - Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday stressed the need to ensure full protection for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and rejected Israel’s escalating measures in the occupied West Bank.
The remarks came during talks at Basman Palace in Amman as part of Subianto’s visit to Jordan, according to a statement by the Royal Hashemite Court.
The court said discussions focused on ways to enhance bilateral cooperation “in service of mutual interests and regional stability.”
King Abdullah commended Indonesia’s role regarding “the challenges facing the region, particularly its support for achieving peace on the basis of the two-state solution, and its commitment to protecting Palestinians in Gaza,” the statement said.
For his part, Subianto expressed Indonesia’s commitment to working towards lasting peace, stressing that it is “the only solution for achieving stability in the region.”
He also affirmed his country’s support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and support for the implementation of the agreement to end the war in Gaza.
Addressing developments in the occupied West Bank, the Indonesian president warned of “the serious consequences of continued escalations on the region, and particularly efforts to restore stability in Gaza.”
King Abdullah, in turn, stressed the “rejection of Israel’s escalatory measures aimed at expanding settlements and controlling land in the West Bank,” and warned against “continued violations of Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.”
The Jordanian monarch also underlined “the importance of dialogue and diplomatic channels in reducing tensions related to Iran,” and the need to support Syria and Lebanon in maintaining security, stability and sovereignty, according to the statement.
Concluding a visit that began Tuesday evening, Subianto departed Jordan on Wednesday from Marka Airport in Amman, where he was seen off by King Abdullah and Crown Prince Hussein.
Subianto’s trip marked his second visit to the kingdom in less than a year, following a visit in April 2025.
