AMMAN, Jordan (AA) - Jordanian Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Yousef al-Huneiti and his US counterpart Gen. Charles Q. Brown discussed cooperation and joint coordination between the two countries.
Al-Hneiti received Brown in the capital Amman, according to a statement by the Jordanian Army on Saturday.
The statement said the two sides discussed “aspects of cooperation and joint coordination in various fields, in addition to the latest developments in the regional and international arenas in a manner that serves the interests of the armed forces of the two friendly countries.”
Huneiti emphasized "the necessity of uniting international efforts to achieve international security and peace."
Brown affirmed Jordan's "central role" and its "constant efforts to promote security and stability in the region," according to the Jordanian army statement.
Brown arrived in Jordan earlier Saturday for a visit of unspecified duration.
Regional tensions have escalated since Israel’s assassination of the Hamas leader and Hezbollah commander, with both Iran and Hezbollah vowing to retaliate against Israel.
The escalation comes amid an ongoing Israeli offensive against the Gaza Strip which has killed more than 40,300 Palestinians and injured nearly 93,400 others following a Hamas attack on Oct. 7 last year.
