Achieving peace and stability in region is contingent upon reaching just solution to Palestinian issue, says king

AMMAN, Jordan (AA) - Jordan's King Abdullah II stressed on Wednesday the need to push for an immediate cease-fire in the Gaza Strip.

During a call with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the king highlighted the need to protect civilians and warned of the "tragic" humanitarian situation in the enclave, the Royal Hashemite Court said in a statement.

The statement further stressed the importance of increasing humanitarian and medical aid and ensuring its uninterrupted delivery to the Gaza Strip.

During the call, the king reiterated Jordan's stance that achieving peace and stability in the region is contingent upon reaching a just solution to the Palestinian issue, based on the two-state solution, the statement added.

Israel resumed its military offensive on the Gaza Strip on Friday after the end of a weeklong humanitarian pause with the Palestinian group Hamas.

At least 16,248 Palestinians have been killed and more than 43,616 others injured in relentless air and ground attacks on the enclave since Oct. 7 following a cross-border attack by Hamas.

The Israeli death toll in the Hamas attack stood at 1,200, according to official figures.
