Jordan's diplomatic efforts 'impacted positions of Western countries,' says king

King Abdullah II also stresses that Jordan will continue to press ahead with its efforts to support Gazans

AMMAN, Jordan (AA) – Jordan’s King Abdullah II on Monday said his country's diplomatic efforts had had a "noticeable impact" on the positions of Western countries.

Abdullah made the statement during a meeting with heads and members of the country's Senate and House of Representatives councils, according to a royal statement cited by the official Petra news agency.

He said he considered Jordan's support for the Palestinians "a duty, and will not pay attention to the skeptics" in Jordan's role and position.

Abdullah also stressed that Jordan will continue to press "ahead with its efforts to support Gazans through airdrop operations and delivering aid by all possible means."

Jordan has so far implemented 13 humanitarian aid airdrop operations to Gaza, including four on Monday.

He also said his recent foreign visits focused on the priority of ending the war on Gaza, and ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Israel has launched a deadly offensive on the Gaza Strip since an Oct. 7 cross-border incursion by Hamas, killing more than 29,782 people and causing mass destruction and shortages of necessities, while nearly 1,200 Israelis are believed to have been killed.

The Israeli war on Gaza has pushed 85% of the territory's population into internal displacement amid acute shortages of food, clean water, and medicine, while 60% of the enclave's infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, according to the UN.

Israel stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice. An interim ruling in January ordered Tel Aviv to stop genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.
