Jordan's king demands cease-fire in meeting with Blinken
King Abdullah II receives US Secretary of State during Antony Blinken’s visit to Amman
ِِِAMMAN, Jordan (AA) - Jordanian King Abdullah II demanded an end to the war against the Gaza Strip and a humanitarian cease-fire Saturday to ensure the sustainable delivery of aid and unimpeded work of international humanitarian agencies.
Abdullah urged the “stepping up international efforts to deliver food, water, medicine, and fuel to Gaza without interruption, and support relief organizations working in the strip," in a meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, according to a statement by the Royal Hashemite Court.
It stressed the importance of "working towards a political horizon to achieve just and comprehensive peace on the basis of the two-state solution," noting that "the King warned that military or security solutions will not succeed."
Abdullah reaffirmed Jordan's "ongoing support for the Palestinian people in gaining their legitimate rights to establish a sovereign and independent Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital."
The Jordanian foreign minister, in a news conference with his US and Egyptian counterparts, also demanded an immediate cease-fire and rejected evaluating the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip under Israel's right to self-defense.
