AMMAN, Jordan (AA) - Jordanian King Abdullah II on Monday stressed the US role in pressing "for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza."
The Jordanian monarch made the statement during a meeting with US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Charles Brown in Amman, according to the Jordanian royal court.
They also discussed other regional developments as well as the Jordanian-US military and defense cooperation.
"The meeting also covered regional and international efforts to counter terrorism within a holistic approach," the statement added.
The statement, however, did not point to when the top US military commander arrived in Amman or the duration of his visit.
Israel has bombarded the Gaza Strip from the air and land, imposed a siege, and mounted a ground offensive in retaliation for a cross-border attack by Hamas on Oct. 7.
At least 19,453 Palestinians have since been killed and 52,286 injured in the Israeli onslaught, according to Gaza’s health authorities.
The Israeli death toll in the Hamas attack stands at 1,200, while over 130 hostages are still held by the Palestinian group in Gaza, according to official figures.
