AMMAN, Jordan (AA) - Jordan’s King Abdullah II and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres discussed the possibility of reaching an immediate humanitarian truce in Gaza in a phone call Wednesday.

According to the Jordanian Royal Court, King Abdullah discussed with Guterres "the need for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza and imposing a humanitarian truce."

The monarch stressed the important role of the UN and its agencies in providing relief services to Gaza in light of Israel’s suffocating siege and onslaught there.

He also called "for maintaining support for international humanitarian organizations working in the (Gaza) Strip."

King Abdullah reiterated that a peace process based on a two-state solution is the only way to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Israel has launched relentless air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip since the Palestinian resistance group Hamas initiated a cross-border attack on Oct. 7.

At least 10,569 Palestinians, including 4,324 children and 2,823 women, have been killed.

The Israeli death toll, meanwhile, is nearly 1,600, according to official figures.
